ACCOMMODATIONS:
This beautiful piece of land was known for its exuberant forests and its people and their unique traditions. When telling their stories, each visitor usually highlighted a different experience. The water channels, the old tunnels, the linen and cotton embroidery, the food, plentiful and diverse, the wonderful wine, the mild weather, and so on. There were many things to remember and to talk about. So people were always discussing what was the most beautiful item of Madeira. The most important one.
So, one day, someone had an idea. And this was no common someone. The Lady of the Palace was a creative and even more curious mind. She wondered “what if we could create a space that presented Madeira’s singular roots and characteristics?” All these things were put together, so people could experience them and then decide on what should be considered the most amazing ambassador of the island. And the discussion could cease to be. This would have to be a place that mixed traditions and history with new things, because Madeira was always changing, as a living, enchanted organism.
So the Palace of Tomorrow and the Days Before was built.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
The hotel is set over the Praia da Rocha cliff with direct access to the beach. It was built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, along with the area’s historical chalets.
After its recent refurbishment, the Bela Vista welcomed the Presidents of the Portuguese Republic Mário Soares and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Both left their comments in the hotel’s Book of Honour.
Built as a private residence for António Júdice de Magalhães Barros, a canning industrialist (1879-1960), it was inaugurated in February 1918, with the President of the Republic Sidónio Pais as a guest of honor. The “Vila de Nossa Senhora das Dores”, where the five daughters of Magalhães Barros grew up, was the scene of memorable parties, with great artists and politicians.
In 1934, this villa was adapted into a hotel by the owner’s cousin, Henrique Bívar Vasconcelos. This is how Bela Vista was born, one of the first hotels in the Algarve.
