ACCOMMODATIONS: Yadoya Shiroganeya

XL Japanese Style Room includes breakfast & dinner

My great-grandfather Uichiro Tsukada established it in 1936 as the Togakushi region’s first lodging establishment that wasn’t a temple. The building was renovated and restored starting in 2017 for a period of two years, bringing it back to its historical state from the Taisho to the early Showa era. Apparently hard to find today, large zelkova and chestnut trees are extensively employed to construct a grand edifice.

In order to keep you warm and comfortable even in the bitter cold of winter and to be able to endure earthquakes with a seismic intensity of five or higher, we spent a lot of time and effort on earthquake resistance and insulation construction while yet retaining the oldness of the building. This property is a ryokan, which is a type of traditional Japanese Inn

2-NIGHTS in HIROSHIMA, JAPAN

Day 13-14 Hiroshima, Japan

Hiroshima, Japan, is a city that carries both a poignant history and a vibrant spirit of resilience. Forever etched in the global consciousness due to the tragic events of World War II, Hiroshima has transformed into a symbol of peace and hope. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial, commonly known as the Atomic Bomb Dome, stands as a solemn reminder of the city’s past while serving as a beacon of remembrance and a call for a world without nuclear weapons. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park further commemorates the lives lost with its serene landscapes, poignant monuments, and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, which offers a comprehensive account of the atomic bombing’s impact.

Beyond its historical significance, Hiroshima embraces life with unwavering optimism. The bustling Hondori Shopping Street showcases the city’s contemporary energy, offering a plethora of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The tranquil Miyajima Island, just a short ferry ride away, is home to the iconic Itsukushima Shrine with its “floating” torii gate, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that captivates visitors with its ethereal beauty during high tide. Hiroshima’s resilient spirit is embodied in its people, who have transformed tragedy into a catalyst for peace, making the city a powerful testament to the human capacity for renewal and hope.

ACCOMMODATIONS: The Knot Hiroshima

When we experience the history, life, culture and of Hiroshima, we return to our essence of being human. For example, before having a meal, think about who you are eating with, not what you are eating. Who do we live for, not what do we live for. In this breathtaking city of islands, you can feel the magnificent sea and breathe the fresh mountain air. As your gaze drifts towards the vast blue, tracing the afterimage of the light reflected on the water’s surface, you think of the past, the present, and the future.

Hiroshima is famous around the world for places like Miyajima—a World Heritage Site—and the Peace Memorial Park and THE KNOT brand wanted to maximize this global reach while maintaining its strong connection to Hiroshima. We want to be a space that is open to all and where everyone is treated equally. The signage of THE KNOT HIROSHIMA uses many languages: Japanese, English, Hangul, Chinese, and more. While functioning as a universal sign, it also exists as art. This bringing together of a wide variety of languages clearly expresses the identity of THE KNOT brand.
